London-born Zayn is a superbly-talented multi-instrumentalist, composer & guitarist. He was playing flamenco by the age of 3. By the age of 9 he was performing flamenco nationally. Age 12 he appeared on live television playing the music of Joe Satriani and Steve Vai. But do not be put off by such prodigious skills. He’s all about passing them on to others. He is a great teacher, charming and likeable. He has a passion for sharing his knowledge in private lessons and through public masterclasses. Teaching and performing are symbiotic for Zayn. For him, mentoring guitar students of all abilities is incredibly rewarding, an integral part of his musical life.
Some more information: Immersed and trained in various musical styles such as Flamenco, Indian Classical, Turkish Classical and highly influenced by his Godfather, living legend jazz pianist Ahmad Jamal (Miles Davis’ biggest inspiration) – he went on to study jazz guitar performance at the renowned Berklee College of music, Boston USA. During his time at Berklee, Zayn garnered respect from his mentors such as David Gilmore, Danilo Perez & John Patitucci, and twice received the ‘Guitar Dept Achievement award’ as well as being a member of the elite ‘Global Jazz institute’. After receiving his BA, Zayn spent two years on the jazz and world circuit in New York, where he played regularly at clubs and venues such as the infamous ‘Blue Note’, opening for legendary jazz greats such as Pat Martino & Stanley Clarke, Zayn was called to return to his hometown to continue his musical journey in London.
In 2016 he was crowned Sky Arts Guitar Star, receiving praise from his mentor, multi-grammy award winner George Benson, saying of Zayn “He shows what guitar is all about, he’s truly a star.” After a sudden move to Dubai, UAE in his teens, Zayn expanded his guitar training and repertoire to incorporate a wide array of world instruments from Oud (Middle Eastern Lute), Sarod (Indian plucked stringed instrument), Ney (Turkish Reed Flute), to Frame Drum, Rebab and many more. He has performed alongside artists such as Wayne Shorter, Lee Ritenour, Nitin Sawhney, Lianne La Havas, Robert Mitchell, and many more. He is currently making his mark on the London scene at jazz festivals and renowned venues such as Ronnie Scott’s and the Barbican.
